INTRODUCTION
The A.B. and Jessie Polinsky Children's Center, built to replace the Hillcrest Receiving Home, is a 24-hour facility operated by the County of San Diego for the temporary shelter of children who:
  • have been separated from their families for their own safety
  • are neglected; or
  • whose parents are unable to provide for them.
The Center was built on land donated by the County of San Diego and augmented with funds raised exclusively from private donations.


GOALS
  • To provide a more healing and stable environment for better assessment, improved case management, and consistent care for all children entering Polinsky Children's Center;
  • To provide improved services for the children by creating and coordinating preventative measures and treatment activities;
  • To promote child abuse awareness among individuals and community organizations in San Diego County.

FACILITY
The campus includes si residential cottages, an infant nursery, medical clinic, school, library, cafeteria, gymnasium, two swimming pools, two playgrounds and a baseball field.

Approximately 2,500-3,000 children

DAILY POPULATION
60-90 children

DONATIONS
Donations are used to enhance and enrich the lives of all resident children during their stay at Polinsky Children's Center by means of special programs, education, recreation and cultural activities, personal case supplies, and clothing.
